Here comes the season of joy and celebration;
We pray to Goddess Durga for mercy on her creation.
It is time to enjoy the atmosphere of festivities;
And relish the performances of our little celebrities.
The occasion helps us get rid of day-to-day pressure;
We feel buoyed to exchange pleasantries and gesture.
The Durga Puja highlights the joy of life and eulogy;
To Bengalis, it is more than just to comply with theology.
Weeks ago moms begin their kids’ rehearsals;
And plan for their performance-related apparels.
The festive mood makes the morning air joyful and holy;
At night, curtain comes down bringing a sense of melancholy.
Durga Puja brings out the best of philosophical and cultural unity;
Across the world, the festivity enriches the Bengali community.
The event embellishes our tradition at each faraway place;
We look forward to embracing it next year with dignity and grace.

Prowess of Stem Cells
Please see the truth in the power of science;
You can make a difference in the lives of tens of thousands.
What you call a murder with your pious voice;
I call it an undeniable right to find a compassionate cure for helpless.
You argue for legislating morality through your cronies;
You use talk shows to lampoon trembling of loved ones;
You talk with evangelical zeal about propriety and righteousness;
Yet you let loved ones die without a chance to be treated.
You fail to see a ray of hope for saving a life;
You can only see an appalling darkness in stem cells.
Your rhetoric eulogizes divine virtues of compassionate conservatism;
Your action, in contrary, eclipses compassion by pessimism.
It is call of our time to stand united for a pledge—
To help cure debilitating diseases with prowess of stem cells.

A Tribute to the United Nations
The UN—we salute you with reverence;
We salute for your role to solve conflicts.
You make your presence felt across the world
With your noble mission of lending a helping hand.
As communities get inflicted by chaos and conflicts,
You prove naysayer and skeptics wrong.
You set in the process of healing through bold move;
Your grueling work makes millions of helpless smile.
As civil wars loom large from Darfur to Timor;
You spread the message of peace and compassion.
Your blue-helmeted soldiers demonstrate unparallel courage
Through selfless perseverance and untold sacrifices.
We applaud your effort toward creating a just world order—
That aims at bridging the gap between haves and have-nots.
We envy your war on poverty and infectious diseases;
We respect your commitment to bring peace upon earth.
As you stand tall and firm in the face of political assault,
We renew our pledge to uphold your values and principles.
We strive toward making our world more beautiful and livable—
Through our collective effort to support you—The U.N.

Our Family Trip to India
We had a fabulous and fun trip to India last winter (Dec 15-Jan 5). The weather was beautiful, most of the time hovering around 20 degreee celcius during day time and 13 degree during night. I was able to meet most of my high school friends. They are doing well, both professionally and physically. My morning used to get started with a cup of bed tea and biscuits. Around 10 AM, I would go to Gariahat Mall and sit down at a corner of mall cafetaria on the fifth (to best of my fading memory) floor. I would read newspapers, journals, and write poems. I would stay in the mall for couple of hours.
Most of my afternoon times have been well spent with Sujata and Priyanka. We have gone to several malls, and Priyanka had just a good time. Kolkata has changed a lot over the last few years. People (I am referring to middle class and upper middle class) have more disposable incomes, and many of them have made it a habit to spend quite a bit on materials from design boutiques. Young professionals are working long hours and seem to be content with the lifestyle.
I had tried various kinds of sweets and gained at least 15 pounds of weight in three weeks. Overall it was a vacation worth of money and time.

Workout
Feeling blue? Don't worry be happy--
Get dressed up and go to field.
Have a great run and sweat profusely
Until you feel stress-free and relieved.
Getting bored with all white noises?
Shrug off laziness and get off the couch.
Lighten up your heart and mind,
Do some workout with a committed vouch.
